About Me

Hi everyone!  Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blogging world.  My name is Abigail but nearly everyone calls me Abby.  I am a southern girl (Virginia born and raised) who moved to Albany, New York after college to attend graduate school.  I had absolutely no intention of staying beyond the mandated two years but I now find myself going into my fourth year of Capital Region living!  I am slowly but surely adapting to the Northeast and becoming a New Yorker (by way of Virginia).

By day I am a Senior Project Associate and work as a consultant for the National SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access & Recovery) Technical Assistance Center, which is essentially a fancy way of saying I provide support to states that are working to implement the SOAR model.  SOAR aims to decrease SSI/SSDI denials for individuals with disabilities/mental illeness who are experiencing homelessness - all in all it is a pretty fantastic program.  I am responsible for providing technical assistance to 11 states (mainly in the Midwest) and travel a lot!  My job is crazy and stressful but I love it!

By night (and occasionally very early mornings) I am a lover of all things fitness, cooking, blogging and exploring!  I was a Division I athlete in college (I threw the hammer and weight at the College of William & Mary) and an All-American Strength & Conditioning athlete.  In college I loved to compete, but also eat!  Back then my sport justified my size and once I graduated I thought I could maintain the same eating and workout habits.  Boy was I wrong!  Over the past couple of years I have been working to determine the best workout and lifestyle plan for me; my plans change often, are sometimes a struggle and are always challenging, however slowly but surely I am learning how to live a healthy, active and more fun life!

Fitness wise I love BOOT CAMP, spinning, hot yoga, interval workouts on the elliptical/treadmill and running outside (when the weather permits, I do live in Albany after all).  I have run numerous 5Ks, 3.5 and 4 Milers and hope to one day run a half marathon.  I love hiking and being active and every time I travel to a new city I make it a point to get out, walk around and explore the area.

I am also a wannabe foodie - I love to cook!  My boyfriend (Adam) is the baker and I am the cook (although he is also a very good cook).  Most days you will find me searching the blogs on my iPad for the next great meal that I simply must recreate.  I will often blog about what I cook and you will find those recipes dispersed between posts about everything from my travel and workouts to updates on my fitness progress and what I did last weekend.

The goal of this blog is to share and appreciate the little things in life - whether it be a trip to a new city, a fun hike on the weekend or an awesome recipe that I simply must share.  I hope you'll enjoy reading about my journey to stay fit, cook delicious meals and appreciate everyday explorations!
